Confused About Fats?

by Abbie Leave a Comment

So much confusion in the world today “This is good, this is NOT good, do this, don’t do that” Its enough to give you daily migraines! So I really do my best to share my understanding of things.

Omegas.  Ok….well, if you have acne prone skin, NOT all Omegas are “good” for your acne. Let’s talk about Omega 6! It’s not that it’s so terrible for you, it has more to do with the imbalance between omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids.

Eating lots of foods rich in omega-6 fatty acids, like soy and corn oils, has been linked to increased levels of inflammation which will of course will not benefit your skin or acne issues.

Omega-3 however is a different story! You can find this in really high amounts in fatty fish! Omega-3 will give you a balanced diet of healthy fats. Fatty fish, for example, have been shown to heal the skin from within, which can help in reducing acne marks and scars. Yay!

Omega-3s also contain anti-inflammatory properties, which can HELP with acne symptoms. Other examples of foods that are high in omega-3s include pastured eggs, grass-fed beef, spinach, flaxseeds and soybeans!

My Approach

My scientific approach revolves around identifying and addressing my client’s needs. Sometimes, the issues can be internal. Internal wellness plays a significant role in skin health. Many spas and product lines do not take a holistic approach in order to target internal balancing. With the right products in my skin arsenal, I am able to target several key skin needs: detoxing and repair, healing and nourishment, and balancing and protection. Rather than addressing skin issues externally, I take a corrective approach to your skincare combating and mitigating skin damage from the inside-out.
