Puffiness under the eyes is not that uncommon as you age. Normal fat that helps support the eyes can then move into the lower eyelids, causing the lids to appear puffy, but that’s definitely not always the case!
Puffy under eyes generally results from a variety of other factors, including….
- Too much salt intake (which can cause fluid retention)
- Allergies can cause inflammation and swelling
- Lack of sleep
- Not drinking enough water
- Stress
- Crying a lot
Interestingly enough, we are also finding a connection between under eye swelling and the kidneys. Any inflammation in the kidneys (possibly from alcohol or even ibuprofen) can show up under the eyes as puffiness.
Also, in addition to this being associated with kidneys, according to Chinese Face Reading they are unshed tears or repressed emotions.
